WNCN hires Kevin Holden as sports director

Kevin Holden was named sports director of the Raleigh CBS affiliate WNCN.

“Having Kevin join CBS 17 News as sports director is a great addition for the station and the community. He is a world-class storyteller, who knows the sport at national and local levels,” the news director said. Ed Trauschke. “Not only has he anchored and reported the biggest stories in the sports world, but he has also done play-by-play for multiple teams over the years.”

Holden, who also speaks fluent Spanish, has just WDJT in Milwaukee, where he was athletic director. While in Wisconsin, he also did play-by-play for the Brewers and Green Bay Packers during their Spanish-language broadcasts.

He also worked in Orlando at WOFL, News 8 in Austin and WHNS in Greenville, South Carolina. He got his start at WDNN in Dalton, Georgia, before moving to Tupelo, Mississippi, and then Houston.

“I’m excited to come to CBS 17 and be able to cover all the big sports stories in the Triangle,” Holden said. “This region has the best college basketball in the country, as well as a thriving soccer scene. It’s exciting to be able to cover the NHL on a daily basis with the Carolina Hurricanes.
