Week of January 6 Morning news ratings: Today leads first full week of 2025

The first full week of 2025 was marked by current events such as the Wildfires in Los Angeles, former president Jimmy Carterstate funeraland the departure of a co-host of a popular morning show. Not surprisingly, all three morning news shows saw double-digit gains in total viewers and the advertiser-coveted Adults 25-54 demo during the busy week of January 6.

NBC News’ Today maintained its top spot in both measured categories and extended its lead over ABC News’ Good Morning America. In total, 163,000 viewers separated the two rival morning programs.

NOTE: ABC News’ GMA was renamed GMA-ABC, and NBC News’ Today was renamed Today-TS on Thursday (9/1/2025). CBS News’ CBS Mornings was rebranded as CBS Morn Wednesday (01/08/2025) and Friday (01/10/2025) and coded as a breakout Thursday. ABC and NBC weekly averages are based on four days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday). CBS averages are based on two days (Monday and Tuesday).

According to Nielsen live and same-day data, GMA averaged 2.905 million total viewers and 485,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week. Compared to the previous weekGMA is up +15% in total audience and +13% in demo. Looking its performance alongside the same week in 2024 (the week of January 8)GMA was down -6% and -20% in these respective categories.

Today ended the first full week of 2025 as the most-watched morning show in both total viewers and demo, with 3.068 million viewers and 780,000 viewers, respectively. This translates into weekly gains of +21% in the first category and +34% in the second. Year-over-year, Today saw a +4% increase in total viewers and a +2% increase in the demo, the only morning show to see growth from 2024.

One reason for its robust performance may be that it was a Hoda KotbThis is the last week as co-host of Today. His departure on Friday likely attracted additional viewers.

Finally, CBS Mornings attracted 2.047 million total viewers and 415,000 A25-54 viewers for the week just ended. The morning show saw weekly gains of +12% and +25%, respectively. Compared to the same period in 2024, CBS Mornings saw a -13% decline in total viewers and -16% in the demo.
