Week of December 9 Morning news ratings: Today stands alone in week-over-week growth
Morning show battles are settling into the new normal as NBC News’ Today continues to be the most-watched show among total viewers and the demo coveted by Adults 25-54 advertisers.
Today widened its lead over ABC News’ Good Morning America during the week of December 9 and extended its winning streak in total viewers to seven weeks. Additionally, Today was the only morning show to see week-over-week growth in both measured categories.
Meanwhile, CBS Mornings continues to narrow its demo gap with GMA; only 59,000 A25-54 viewers split the two shows last week.
According to live and same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.691 million total viewers and 453,000 viewers in the demo, for declines of -2% and -5%, respectively. compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance during the same week in 2023 (the week of December 11), GMA is down -6% in total viewers and -13% in the demo.
Today, it continues to dominate GMA with 2.825 million total viewers and 707,000 A25-54 viewers, for weekly gains of +1% and +4%, respectively. Year over year, Today grew +1% in total viewers and +3% in the demo.
In third place, CBS Mornings recorded 2.052 million total viewers and 394,000 demo viewers, for respective decreases of -2% and -4% compared to the previous week. Compared to 2023, the morning show is down -11% in total audience and -22% in demo.
