Week of December 30 Morning news ratings: Today leads in final days of 2024

NBC News’ Today remained in first place in total viewers and the advertiser-coveted demo of Adults 25-54 during the week of December 30. But the morning show race was tighter in the final days of 2024 as just 8,000 total viewers parted today. from its main rival, ABC News’ Good Morning America.

The usually slow holiday season was marked by two breaking news stories, starting with the death of former president Jimmy Carter and continue with the Terrorist attack in New Orleans.

NOTE: GMA was rebranded as GMA-ABC Monday (12/30/204) today and CBS Mornings was rebranded as Specials Tuesday (12/31/24). All broadcasts from three mornings were coded on Wednesday (01/01/2025). CBS Mornings rebranded as CBS-Morn on Monday, Thursday (02/01/25) and Friday (03/01/2025). ABC’s weekly averages are based on three days (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday). NBC and CBS averages are also based on three days (Monday, Thursday and Friday).

According to Nielsen live and same-day data, GMA averaged 2.530 million total viewers and 429,000 A25-54 viewers for the week. Looking at his performances alongside the same week in 2024 (the week of January 1)GMA saw a decline in total viewers of -10% and -15% in the demo.

Today saw 2.538 million total viewers and 582,000 A25-54 viewers, representing year-over-year declines of -6% and -14%, respectively.

CBS Mornings averaged 1.823 million total viewers and 331,000 A25-54 viewers over the holiday period, resulting in declines of -12% and -22%, respectively, from the prior year.
