Retired Chicago journalist creates scholarship to remember daughter
Retired WLS Traffic Anchor Roz Varon has established a scholarship fund in memory of her daughter, who died last week.
Sarah Beth Janz was 29 when she died in New Mexico following a recent illness, Varon said.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share the last photo I took with my sweet Sara,” Varon wrote. on social networks. “She died last week following her recent illness. When I got home, the flowers she gave me were in full bloom. I will always remember her as a joyful spirit, filled with happiness on her wedding day last year.
Varon began working at the ABC-owned Chicago station in 1989. She retired in April.
Janz was a founder of the Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Junior Council and was a past recipient of the NATAS Chicago Scholarship.
