Cute Clydesdale Colt Takes an Epic Journey to Budweiser’s Super Bowl 59 AD
A horse enters a bar. No, he literally does it in Budweiser’s Super Bowl 59.
After Big game teaser revealed that the brand’s full campaign would feature its smallest Super Bowl star in more than a decade, Budweiser unveiled the “first delivery” on Monday, a 90-second spot featuring a baby Clydesdale Horse.
Budweiser’s main man is a real colt from the brand’s Warm Springs Ranch in Boonville, MO. The film, from FCB New York, opens with little Clydesdale aspiring to join the iconic “Hitch” (or horse team) on a Budweiser beer delivery. Unfortunately, he’s not old enough yet.
However, as Clydesdale’s team leaves the brewery, a keg of beer falls from the wagon. The colt notices this and fires his shot, pushing the barrel with his head in pursuit of his older colleagues.
From there, viewers follow him on a winding journey through the countryside to prove his worth.
Ultimately, the colt succeeds in his mission, rolling the keg into a bar on Main Street while his fellow Clydesdales and a few spectators cheer him on.
The spot was directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and Emmy Award-winning commercial director Henry Alex Rubin (Girl, Interrupted, 1999). It’s set to the soundtrack of Bellamy’s brother’s 1976 hit “Let Your Love Flow.”
As the horse enters the bar, the words “delivering since 1876” appear on the screen, paying homage to America’s beer heritage. The Spot ends with the slogan: “This bud for you”, that the brand relaunched in 2023 To speak directly to a new generation of beer drinkers.
Budweiser’s Super Bowl 59 commercial will air in select local markets, including Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK; Houston, San Antonio and Waco-Temple-Bryan TX; St. Louis MO; and New Orleans there.
Football and foals
Budweiser’s famous Clydesdales have graced the brewer’s advertising in the United States for decades, and this isn’t the first time the brand has relied on a small mascot for the big game.
In 2013, Budweiser’s “Brotherhood” Super Bowl spot showed the bond between a colt named Hope and his trainer. The Clydesdales curved back into action for the brand spot in 2014, alongside a fluffy golden Labrador in “Puppy Love.”
The beer brand will be making deliveries to New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, and starting February 5, the Clydesdales will be on the field with surprises for drinkers.
Missourians will have the opportunity to spend the day next to some of Budweiser’s stars at Warm Springs Ranch, where Clydesdales are raised, born and cared for, during a special “Football and Foals” celebration on Sunday, February 9.
Budweiser owner AB InBev has five spots in the match, taking up three minutes of national ad time and 45 seconds of regional slots.
Other brands on display will include Bud Light, Busch Light, Michelob Ultra and Stella Artois.
