The Golden Globes hosted by Nikki Glaser are “popular” with 10 million viewers
The 82nd annual Golden Globes are here, and they’re incredibly good.
According to VideoAmp data, Sunday’s Golden Globes, played against NBC’s Sunday Night Football game between the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, averaged 10.1 million viewers, which was on par with final 2024 figures.
The show live broadcast viewership grew 9% year over year on Paramount+ and the CBS app. Additionally, this year’s event generated 40 million social interactions over the course of the evening, making it the most social Golden Globes ever, up 124% year-over-year. other.
The viewing figures came from VideoAmp due to the ongoing contract dispute between Paramount and Nielsen.
In 2024, Nielsen figures for the first revamped version of the Golden Globes on CBS and Paramount+ initially averaged 9.4 million viewers. The final figures then put it at more than 10 million, an increase of 50% compared to the previous year on NBC and the largest audience for the Globes in four years. The sharp increase in ratings helped CBS sign a five-year contract with the awards ceremony.
The 2024 ratings held despite the show being plagued by a poorly received opening monologue from host Jo Koy, who later said he “I fell a little short.” Other problems included crowded seats at the Beverly Hilton, where winners had difficulty getting to the stage, and the overall clunky production that even led Elizabeth Debicki to jump in her seat following an audio glitch during the announcement of his appointment.
However, 2025 was a different story.
The show still had a few pitfalls. For example, during an awards ceremony, actor Seth Rogen denounced the production’s awkward camera angles, which made the framing stand out on the presenters’ faces. But host Nikki Glaser began the show with a widely praised monologue, making jokes about Hollywood on what she called “Ozempic’s biggest night” and even parodying the award ceremony’s musical skits prize by denouncing himself for having made a “popular” mashup of Conclave and Méchant.

In terms of wins, The Brutalist, which had seven nominations, won best drama film; its protagonist, Adrien Brody, won the award for best performance by an actor in a drama film; and its director, Brady Corbet, won the award for best director – motion picture.
Meanwhile, Emilia Pérez won four awards, including Best Non-English Language Film. Additionally, Shōgun won all four awards it was nominated for, including Best Television Drama Series.
However, perhaps the biggest winner of the night was Demi Moore, who took home the award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her work in The Substance. During her emotional speech, Moore noted that the award was the first acting honor she had received.
“I’ve been doing this for a long time, over 45 years,” she said. “This is the first time I’ve won anything as an actor.”
