It looks like another linear cable channel is adding a more streaming-friendly one to its name. Variety reports that CNBC will launch CNBC+ in the first quarter of the new year, bringing the NBCUniversal-owned professional network to a streaming menu near you.
According to Brian SteinbergCNBC+ will launch without any original programming, instead offering a “global feed” that will make its existing shows, including Squawk on the Street and Closing Bell, accessible to viewers in and outside the United States. Contacted by TVNewser, CNBC declined to comment further. .
The launch of CNBC+ follows NBCUniversal’s blockbuster announcement that CNBC and MSNBC would be separated from NBCUniversal News Group by the end of next year. The two networks join SpinCo, the working title of the spinoff company led by the chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group. Marc Lazare and NBCUniversal CFO and Comcast EVP of Corporate Strategy Anand Kini which will be home to other soon-to-be ex-NBCU cable outlets, including Syfy and USA Network.

All major cable news networks are evolving their streaming strategies amid continued audience migration away from linear television. Fox News operates the Fox Nation platform, while CNN broadcasts its shows on Max. after the shutdown of CNN+ shortly after its launch in 2022.
