President-elect Donald Trump will end its long hiatus from traditional non-Fox News media this weekend. A month before his return to the Oval Office, Trump is preparing to speak with NBC News. Kristen Welker in this Sunday’s edition of Meet the Press.
It’s his first network interview since election night, when the Republican candidate defeated the vice president. Kamala Harris in the hotly contested 2024 presidential election cycle. Welker will record his conversation with Trump on Friday, and highlights will air across NBC News platforms ahead of the full interview on Sunday.
During the campaign, Trump largely avoided appearing on traditional networks outside of conservative-leaning outlets like FNC and Newsmax. Instead, he and his advisors sought opportunities in new and emerging media platforms. Trump sat down for lengthy interviews with podcasters like Joe Rogan And Theo Vonand has also appeared alongside social media influencers such as Logan Paul And Adin Ross.
The notable exceptions, of course, were the two presidential debates. In June, Trump confronted the president Joe Biden on a CNN-hosted debate that redefined the 2024 raceleading to Biden’s exit and Harris’ rise to the top of the ticket. Since the election, many Trump supporters have suggested that the president-elect may continue to embrace emerging media platforms. But Trump’s decision to appear on Meet the Press suggests he still sees some incentive to sit down for a broadcast news interview. It’s a big win for Welker, who celebrated his first birthday as host of the show in September.
